Board Book

Redmond has added to her MADE WITH LOVE series with another kids’ favorite, PIZZA! Make sure you check out the DONUTS book too.

Do you have Friday night as pizza night at your house? Or maybe it’s Sunday. We liked to do Pizza, Popcorn, and Pop on Sunday nights. This book helps get your toddlers excited about making their own pizza by teaching them all the steps necessary to create an exceptional pizza.

First, you have to roll out the dough. Then you spread the tomato sauce. Next comes the cheese, peppers, olives, mushrooms, basil, and red pepper flakes. But, there is one more ingredient that every pizza needs to have and that is LOVE!

The book is a small board book with heavy pages to hold up to heavy toddler page-turning. The book is round so the pages look like a pizza. The text encourages inference and guessing about what might come next. The images offer opportunities for teaching shapes, colors, and counting.

The only downside of the book is that I wasn’t sure the ingredients were very “kid-friendly”. I don’t know too many kids, especially toddlers, who like mushrooms, black olives, or basil. But, maybe this is a way to get them to try some new toppings on their pizza. It’s definitely a pizza I would like to eat! Ultimately, this book reminds kids that food shared with someone you love is the best kind of meal!

Lea Redmond reveals the extraordinary hiding in the ordinary: a penny, a pizza, hand gestures, clouds. Lea creates books, toys, games, and small adventures that invite humans of all ages to be curious, playful, and kind. Visit Lea’s world of wonder at LeaRedmond.com.
