Interactive Board Book

Tom Schamp is a well-known and talented illustrator. I previously shared his book IT’S A GREAT BIG COLORFUL WORLD and raved about the illustrations and vivid colors on the pages. This board book offers toddlers a chance to interact with the adorable illustrations through lift-the-flaps on every page.

The pages ask who is in the bushes (a peacock) or who is driving the car (a tortoise). The images have an old-fashioned look but the animals that are under the flap take on the shape of the item. For example, the pelican’s beak is the same shape as the bathroom sink. Of course, all the animals hidden in the flap are silly. You wouldn’t expect a camel to be napping behind the couch, but the couch has curves that match the camel’s hump

Since the pages have short sentences, soon your toddler will be able to read and enjoy the book all on their own. This board book will stand up to lots of reading and flap lifting from your toddler and will produce some giggles while reading as well. There is also a duck on every page to have your toddler find. At the end, the book asks Who loves cake? and since everyone does, your toddler can find all the animals from the book in the final flap.

Tom Schamp is a renowned Belgian illustrator. After extensive studies at Sint-Lukas Brussels University College of Art and Design, he developed a style of his own using acrylic paint upon cardboard. Schamp designs for a rich mixture of media including children’s books, newspapers, postcards, and toys.
