Fiction

Kids will find all kinds of rhyming fun in this silly encounter between a pug and a bug on the same rug. Pug isn’t too interested in sharing his rug with Bug and Bug doesn’t want to give up the rug either. Bug has a reason for why the rug is his new home, but Pug and Bug decide that squabbling over the rug is a better idea. Until Slug comes along and gets everything out in the open.

There is lots of silliness and great rhyming words, even ones that might be new to your child like smug or using the word “mug” to mean a face. There are also several onomatopoeias for kids to read along with the story like “Crash!” and “Bzzz!”. Just when Bug, Slug, and Pug think they have their compromise all figured out, a new friend arrives to claim the rug!

The illustrations are so great, especially when showing all the emotions on the characters’ faces. I also loved the little home that Bug created on the rug. I have no doubt kids will love this read-aloud and I look forward to sharing it with some of the elementary classrooms I teach in.

This story offers a great opportunity to discuss sharing with others, talking about our frustrations, and being kind.
