Even toddlers can learn about the weather outside their window. Talking about if the sun is shining or if it is raining and the season we are in are important learning topics for preparing them for school. It’s really their first exposure to Earth Science. Once kids are in school, in lower elementary, usually kids gather on the carpet and one of the first things the class does during calendar time is discuss the weather outside. This book would be excellent for introducing weather to toddlers through kindergarten.

First of all, the illustrations use bright, bold colors with crayon-like drawings to engage the youngest kids. The children and adults featured on the pages are of various genders and races and are having fun no matter what the weather is doing. It’s raining out? Then let’s read a book. There is a thunderstorm outside? Let’s play a board game.

The science of weather is explained succinctly and in a fun way to get kids excited to look out their window or step outside their door to see if they can decide what their weather is today. There are even pictures and descriptions of clouds so children can learn how to identify them.

This book on the weather is very well done and would be great for home or classroom libraries. If you are looking for a fun and simple way to introduce weather concepts to our youngest learners, this book is the one.
