Easter Basket Ideas

When our kids were little, I loved filling their Easter baskets with books, games, and summer items they would need like swim gear and outdoor toys. Over the next several days, I’ll be sharing a few books that you might want to tuck into your child’s Easter basket. Click HERE to them.

I remember receiving GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU as a gift when our son was born in 2000. As a new mom, I hadn’t heard this story before but it quickly became one of our favorites and I read it to all three of our children. This story is timeless and the illustrations are so sweet. Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare can easily cross generations. I would guess parents are reading this book to their children after having it read to them.

This Deluxe Book and Toy Gift set includes a board book of GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU and a small stuffed version of Little Nutbrown Hare. The size is perfect for a baby or toddler’s hands to hold while you are reading the story. The small board book easily tucks into a diaper bag or sits on a bedside table for bedtime reading. It’s bound to be a favorite and makes the perfect baby shower or new baby gift. It would also be perfect in your young child’s Easter basket.

In case you don’t know the story, it’s time for bed and Little Nutbrown Hare holds on to Big Nutbrown Hare’s ears and says, “Guess how much I love you?”. As Big Nutbrown Hare prepares for bed, they go back and forth expressing how much they love each other, as high as they can reach, all the way up to their toes, and as high as they can bounce. Just when Little Nutbrown Hare thinks he’s found the best example of how much he loves Big Nutbrown Hare, there is finally one that can’t be beaten.

This is a classic bedtime story, one to remind your child of how much they are loved. It works for any caregiver or loving relationship because it just uses Big Nutbrown Hare instead of Mom or Dad. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, an older sibling, or guardians can read this to a child they love all the way to the moon….and back.

Sam McBratney is the author of the acclaimed picture book Guess How Much I Love You. Sam’s distinctive storytelling voice builds on his rich storytelling tradition as a teacher, parent, and grandparent. He lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
