Have you ever blown the puffy seeds of a dandelion? I know I spent many summers blowing the seeds across our yard and fields. But, I never imagined where those seeds would end up.

Dandelions can be found on every continent on Earth because they are such good little travelers. They can travel by air, on water, or by sticking to clothing or fur. They can even travel inside a bird’s belly and come out the other end! In this book, children can travel along with the dandelion seeds across our great Earth, visiting all seven continents.

With lyrical, repetitive, and rhyming text, this book makes for an excellent read-aloud, especially for early readers. I love how the color scheme and illustrations flowed from one page to the next with unique details added for each continent.

“Down with a root. Up with a shoot. A little dandelion blooms in….”

With spring arriving tomorrow here in North America, this book is an excellent introduction to explaining the new season and encouraging your child to watch for the blooming of dandelions in their neighborhood.

Julia Richardson grew up galloping barefoot through grassy fields full of dandelions. She loved making wishes on seed puffs and imagining each little seed as one of her dreams. This debut picture book is one of those dreams taking root. Julia lives on a farm in Mattawan, Michigan, with her family and a yard full of dandelions.

Kristen & Kevin Howdeshell are a husband-and-wife illustrator duo based in Kansas City, Missouri. Over the past decade they have headed up their studio, The Brave Union, where they work on posters, packaging, educational, and editorial illustration with a heavy focus on children’s books. In their non-art hours, the couple raises their three young kids, volunteer as art teachers in their elementary school, and exercise their talent for collecting numerous dandelions.
