Fiction

Inspired by the author’s own family, TWO NEW YEARS celebrates Rosh Hashanah, which begins tomorrow, and Lunar New Year. Both new years mark the passage of time, one in the fall and one in the spring, sending out the old and bringing in the new.

Celebrating both traditions means dual gatherings that bring family home, preparing foods from both cultures with many blessings for the new year both in the fall and the spring. This joining of cultures is a cherished time for this family that blends Judaism with Chinese culture.

The gorgeous watercolored illustrations fill the pages with joyous celebrating including lots of hugs, crafts, delicious food, and sparkling paper lanterns rising in the night sky. The author shares his own story at the end of the book sharing how his children are the lucky ones who get to grow up in a home that celebrates both Rosh Hashanah and Lunar New Year. He hopes children of all backgrounds can relate to the joy of celebrating whatever is special to their family.

Richard Ho is Chinese, Jewish, and an author…in any order you wish! He loves to craft stories about diverse cultures and the delightful ways they intertwine. He and his proudly multicultural family live in the melting pot of New Jersey.

Lynn Scurfield loves creating work using bright colors, fun textures, and strong emotions. Lynn enjoys knitting, watching tours of beautiful houses online, and going on hikes with Taro, her small (but barky) dog. Lynn resides in Toronto, Canada.
