Fiction

Have you ever thought about how each one of us are connected in someway? There is an invisible string that connects us at school or in our neighborhood or to our Grandma across the state or a cousin across the country. Our hearts are joined with each other in this tug of a string that binds us to one another.

Kids will love tracing the string on the pages as they see children appear sharing cookies or offering a hug. One kind gesture leads to another and your child will be able to follow as one person is comforted or shares a smile.

Brooke Boynton Hughes believes the world is full of beautiful and interesting people worthy of connection and even in this world we can create a bond that connects us to a whole world of people, ones we love and ones we’ve never met.

The illustrations are soft and detailed to see the emotions and connections on the pages. This reads more like a poem with few words on the page so kids can focus on the actions more than the words. I love the symbolism of a string that connects us all and the visual is helpful for kids to see how their act of kindness can spread all through their classroom, school, or neighborhood.

Brooke Boynton-Hughes is an introvert who often finds going out into the world and meeting new people anxiety-inducing. But she does it anyway because the world is full of beautiful and interesting people worthy of connection. She writes and illustrates children’s books in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she lives with her husband and children. To see more of her work please visit www.BrookeBoyntonHughes.com.
