Literati

Since November 2021, I’ve been receiving the monthly Literati Book Subscription. Each month I choose a Luminary and then discuss their chosen book with other book club members. This online book club offers a book community where readers can engage in discussions led by the Luminary as well as other members. The book options are both fictional novels as well as non-fiction biographies, memoirs, or other books that offer learning opportunities in business, leadership, and self-improvement.

Once you become a member, you choose from one of 17 Luminaries to join their club. You can stick with the same Luminary every month or bounce around based on their book choices. Since I tend to like a variety of different books, I have chosen to bounce around, choosing Luminaries based on the books they will be discussing.

Since November, I have read and discussed books with Cheryl Strayed, Susan Orlean, Atlas Obscura, Kelly McGonigal, Nicole Laeno, and Richard Branson. I think my favorite book choices so far have been THE PUZZLER and THE READING LIST. This month I have chosen Elin Hilderbrand for the first time as my Luminary. You can read about my other Literati Book Choices, HERE.

Check out this month’s Literati choice:

Maggie O’Farrell has been on my to-read list for quite a while. I own her book I AM, I AM, I AM but just haven’t gotten to it yet. INSTRUCTIONS FOR A HEATWAVE sounds like the perfect read for me next week as the state of Iowa gears up for its own summer heatwave, with highs predicted to be in the 100s. This family drama is set in 1976 London during its own heatwave. You know I love a good family drama. I can’t wait to discuss this one with fellow Literati members.

I haven’t read with Elin Hilderbrand yet, but I’ve been watching her choices closely. Some of her previous favorites were books I read and loved including THE GOOD HOUSE and EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU. Elin Hilderbrand knows how to write a great summer novel. She lives on Nantucket with her husband and their three young children, where many of her novels have been set. Hilderbrand is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the graduate fiction workshop at the University of Iowa. So many great writers have come out of the Iowa Writers Workshop and I am so proud of this institution in my area.

The Literati box includes a hardcover copy of the book, a bookmark, and a note from Elin Hilderbrand about why she chose this book.
