Dereck and Beverly Joubert are award-winning filmmakers, conservationists, and National Geographic explorers based in Botswana. Their purpose is to save the wild places of Africa and protect the creatures that depend on them. Elephants hold a special place in their heart and they are truly happiest when they are near them.

Every single animal and species is covered in this book. Nothing has been left out. This is the most comprehensive book on African animals that I have ever read. Adults and children will equally learn from this book and be awed at the amazing photography of the animals and scenery of Africa.

In the first section, animals that you would see on safari are each given a two-page spread including elephants, zebras, rhinos, hippos, antelope, buffalo, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and gorillas. Fact boxes fill the pages including what the animals eat, how they care for their young, what makes them special, and more. The Jouberts also share personal stories from their 35 plus years living in the Africa between the sections.

The various sections feature learning categories including animals that are allies and enemies, what features in animal’s body help them to survive, animal mysteries and myths, and prehistoric animals. I especially loved the Super Creature section that awards animals specific categories like Most Massive (Elephant), Most Social (Meerkat), Gutsiest (Honey Badger) and Wackiest Looking (Shoebill) and more.

The final section focuses on saving species that are close to extinction. Thankfully, many animals have been brought back from extinction and near extinction thanks to the help of people like the Jouberts. They offer ways we can make a difference and help, even here in the States and even just reading this book and learning more about the unique animals that live in Africa helps us understand that importance of keeping them alive and healthy.

Take your family on an African Safari while staying in your living room with THE ULTIMATE BOOK OF AFRICAN ANIMALS. This book would also make an excellent addition to a school, classroom, or homeschool library.
