February 1 is the half-way point of winter. Even though we have had some mild days and some snowy and icy days, so far this winter is MUCH better than it was last year. But, I am still ready to be DONE with winter. Celebrating that we have made it half-way through winter sounds like a good plan to me. All of us have little ways to get through the long days of winter and so today I’m sharing a few of them with you. I’ll be linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy where you can see how others are getting through the winter blues and maybe take a few tips to survive until Spring.

In scrolling through the previous posts, I realized all of those things I’ve mentioned are STILL saving my life right now. I could still rave about each and everything mentioned in those posts. More of the things saving my life this year are things that bring me comfort and joy.

2019 WHAT’S SAVING MY LIFE

2018 WHAT’S SAVING MY LIFE

2017 WHAT’S SAVING MY LIFE

Life around here is MUCH QUIETER than it was in those three previous years. With just our daughter around now, some nights it is just my husband and me at home. We are adjusting to a new normal and before I blink, she will be off to college too.

FRIENDS

We are fortunate to have a solid group of friends that we get together for a Sunday night dinner or even lunch or dinner during the week. It breaks up the monotony and we have fun catching up!

NOOM

Noom is an app that offers daily support, guidance, and tips that are psychology based for better fitness, health, and nutrition. I’ve thought about trying this app for several months and I bit the bullet on December 31. I like it so far and appreciate how my coach holds me accountable.

Gretchen Rubin’s Walk 20 in 20

I’ve been a fan of Gretchen Rubin for several years. I’ve read most of her books and love her podcast and newsletters. When she mentioned the goal of walking just 20 minutes every day in 2020, I was instantly intrigued. It seems like a big goal, but it also seems doable. Who doesn’t have 20 minutes a day? Well, I’ve done it every day in January except for one day when we were gone all day and I got over 10,000 steps in without walking on the treadmill. I was exhausted when we got home after being up since 5:30 and I just decided the step goal was good enough for that day. But, I can tell you, this is definitely more than I have walked in a long time and just forcing myself to get on the treadmill or outside for 20 minutes is something I look forward to every day. You can still join me!

THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL

If you have Amazon Prime, this show should be on your must-watch list. It’s smart and funny and set during one of my favorite time-periods, the 1950’s in New York City. I’m so thankful a friend encouraged me to watch it. It’s my “treadmill show”. I only watch it when I’m on the treadmill, which gives me something to look forward to.

Kindle Paperwhite

My husband gave this to me for Christmas. I used to only use the Kindle app on my phone or iPad, but I was getting frustrated because the books were not always synching properly or the notifications I would get on my devices would be distracting. I’m reading so many more eBooks because of my Kindle and I love that it’s lightweight and small in size.

Raycons

My husband also gave me these earbuds for Christmas. I LOVE THEM!! They actually fit in my ears. The sound quality is excellent. They are super easy to use whether I am listening to a podcast, an audiobook, or if I am on a phone call. I don’t know how I ever lived without them!

METAL DRYING RACK

This Metal Drying Rack is saving my life. There are so many clothes that I don’t dry. Between my daughter’s leggings or our jeans or my dressy clothes, I just don’t dry much anymore. I used to lay the wet clothes all over the house or over the shower rack. This is so much easier!

Trip to Nashville

In a month I’ll be heading to Nashville for a long weekend with my BFF from college. We have some fun activities planned which include definitely going to Parnassus Books and a concert at the Grand Ol’ Opry. Plus lots of great food and good girlfriend catch-up time. I love having something to look forward to in the winter and this will be perfect! I can’t wait!

What a great list! Our drying rack broke at the end of the summer; thank you for reminding me that I need to replace it.
    Thank you for stopping by!

They’ve started filming season 4! So, at least we know it will arrive on our screens eventually!

I love your list! The walking everyday for 20 minutes is genius! I have had MM show on my to watch list forever! Reading this makes me want to take the plunge and start it! Thanks for sharing!

My list has a Kindle Paperwhite on it this year, too! And I so agree that it’s crucial to treadmill success to have a show you only watch on the treadmill! Mine used to be The Great British Baking Show but now I’ve seen all those seasons so I need to find a new one. Thanks for the suggestion!

I love The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel too!! I re-watched the entire series in the Fall, and it was just as good the second time around. I think they are starting to film for Season 4 too, so fingers crossed we will get another season to watch this year. I live in a suburb of Nashville, and it is such a great place to visit (and live!). I hope you enjoy your trip here. 🙂
