Today, February 3, 2021, is World Read Aloud Day. Reading to our children is one of my greatest passions and I couldn’t let this day go by without sharing it with all of you and encouraging you to read aloud to your child, your grandchild, or your students today!

From Scholastic.com:

For 12 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort is now celebrated in over 173 countries and counting. World Read Aloud Day, created by the nonprofit organization LitWorld is all about bringing people together through stories and that will be more important than ever this year when the shared experience and connection of reading aloud is so needed in all of our communities.

I started reading aloud to our children right away as infants. While bottle feeding or rocking with them for nap or bedtime, there was always a book to be read to them. As they got older, bedtime began with several books read aloud in a rocking chair or on the couch. I cherish these memories of reading to our kids and some of those books are so engrained in my memory, I could still recite them today.

Today, I wanted to share a book, perfect for starting the reading aloud habit with your littlest listeners. This board book is perfect for gifting this Valentine’s Day or Easter or anytime a new baby comes into your life.

LOVE CAN COME IN MANY WAYS

Board Book

This is the most adorable book for babies and toddlers to learn about sharing love with others. Through animals and humans, children can learn all the different ways we share the love with each other. Giraffes, swans, raccoons, frogs, elephants, penguins, and more all share love with their children. Each page has cute doodle-like images of animals loving on their family as well as a felt piece that when lifted, reveals something hidden. The felt pieces are cut into shapes like hands, leaves, wings, or even a lion’s mane.

The text has a sing-song type of rhyme which is perfect for early reading and makes for an enjoyable read-aloud experience. It’s perfect for reading at bedtime because the natural cadence of the rhyme has a calming effect. What better time to talk about love than when you are tucking your littles into bed for the night. We always gave our kids books for Valentine’s Day and this one would be perfect for any little Valentine in your life.

It’s never too late to start reading aloud to your child or any child in your life. Grab a book and get started. It doesn’t have to be in person either, start up a Facebook video, call them on Facetime, or connect over Skype or Zoom. You will never regret the time you spent reading to a child.
