Summer Read to Learn 2026

All summer, I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that interest them or offer something new to learn about. Most of the time, these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn from fictional stories too. I believe reading over the summer is so important, and keeping kids interested in reading by finding relevant books about topics that they are interested in is very important. Kids should read at least 20 minutes every day, and I hope that these books offer you ideas to keep your kids reading and learning all summer.

I hope you will stay tuned to these posts. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and will be tagged in the post. There will be books on all kinds of topics kids love to read and learn about. Be sure to stop by each week to see what book I’m sharing as part of my Summer Read-to-Learn series.

The Ultimate Book of the Human Body

THE ULTIMATE BOOK OF THE HUMAN BODY
By: Anne-Sophie Baumann
Illustrated by: Vanessa Robidou
Published: September 30, 2025
Publisher: Twirl
Format: Oversized Interactive Picture Book

Name a kid who isn’t curious about the human body. New babies immediately start exploring their hands and fingers and soon are reaching for their toes. Toddlers begin to notice their nose and ears, finding things to put in them. Then the questions begin. What happens to our food when we eat it? How does my brain work? How does my heart keep pumping? These questions can be hard for grownups to answer so that kids can understand. But with this interactive book, kids can explore and be engaged on the pages while learning all about their body.

Beginning with the bones, skin, and muscles, kids can move the bones at the joints, learn about opposable thumbs and why they are necessary, learn about how scrapes and burns affect the skin, why it’s important to bathe, and how the muscles in our face work. Moving on to lungs, heart, blood, seeing and hearing, smelling and tasting, biting and chewing, eating and drinking (and pooping), and our brain and nervous systems, kids will understand how all the systems must work together to keep our body moving.

The Ultimate Book of the Human Body page

Numerous interactive features are included on every page spread. Mini paragraphs of facts combined with accurate illustrations will engage the kids and encourage them to keep reading and learning. I can imagine the Eating and Drinking section and pulling the tab to make the poop move through the large intestine might be a favorite page for kids.

The book ends with a page about their birth and how babies are born and grow up. Then kids will learn ways to continue to live well into old age by maintaining good physical and mental health. Nothing was left out of this comprehensive book on the human body. The interactive features will make the learning fun and more approachable for kids and will help them remember and apply their learning as well. Next time they eat, your child might just explain the digestive system to you!
