With a rhyming scheme, a Grandpa and grandchild travel through the zoo, watching the animals do their thing from a kangaroo and her joey hopping to a rhino splashing in the water. Each page spread offers a flap to lift, either with more story or an image like the child’s hot dog turning into an ice cream cone.
Families planning their first trip to the zoo can help prepare their little one for what to expect during their visit to the zoo. Parents might want to help with the first peel of the flaps on the pages, as some are harder to loosen than others and have intricate edges that would tear easily. Sally Garland was brought up in the small town of Alness in the Highlands of Scotland and studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. She currently works in Glasgow, where she lives with her partner and young son. Sally has loved drawing and has had a passion for children’s literature and illustration since she was young. She now has many years of experience working as a children’s illustrator. Her current influences include vintage picture book illustrations from the 1950s and 1960s. She has also illustrated the Little Mole series.
