The library was my special place as a kid. Even though the neighboring town only had 250 people, we still had a library. My mom took me there every week, and I loved checking out books and reading as many as I could. I still remember my librarian, too, Mrs. Knox. As an adult, I’m part of our town library’s Board of Trustees so that I can be sure our library is here to provide kids with a lifelong love of reading, just like my library did.
The author wrote this love letter to libraries everywhere to encourage kids to share this book with their parents and then visit their local library. Mychal hopes that grown-ups will take kids to the library so they can get their very own library card and share all the fun things inside the library….surprise, it isn’t just books!

The librarian welcomes kids to the library, reminding them that the library is for everyone! The library is more than just books; you can do puzzles, play games, meet your friends there, create something, and most of all…HAVE FUN!
Now that you have your very own library card, you can come in and have your best day at the library! I certainly hope you are visiting the library in your community!
Mychal Threets is a librarian and literacy advocate. A former PBS kid himself, Mychal is proud to serve as PBS resident librarian. This is his first book. Mychal lives in California.
Lorraine Nam based the art in this book on the happy memories of the many libraries she visited as a library kid. Now she is a library grown-up who has even illustrated a few picture books. Lorraine lives and works in New York City. Check out her website HERE.
