Margaret loves ducks. She knows all about ducks and wants to tell everyone she meets all the great facts she knows about ducks. Not everyone at camp is as excited about ducks as Margaret is, though.

Just Ducky page

Margaret starts to share her love of ducks with fellow camper, Marvin, but Marvin doesn’t like ducks. Marvin and Margaret get into a bit of a disagreement. When it’s time to swim, Marvin doesn’t want to get in the pool, afraid he will sink. Margaret has a great idea: offering her duck, Bill, to help him stay afloat. When Margaret finds a rock at the bottom, Marvin suddenly becomes very interested, sharing all kinds of rock facts with Margaret.

Margaret and Marvin realize that even though they have different passions, they can still be friends and share what they love with each other. Kids will relate to Margaret and Marvin in how they really love something and want everyone else to love it too. Kids will learn about being a good listener when their friends are sharing something, and learn how to respond with questions and positive conversation.

Margaret and Marvin are very passionate about the things they love, maybe a bit too much. But kids will relate and likely recognize Margaret and Marvin as being similar to kids in their classroom. This story will teach them to have empathy and kindness when their friends are excited to share about their special thing.
