Kids who may be afraid of the dark or feel anxious at bedtime may find comfort in this new, poetic bedtime story. Dramatic and vibrant nighttime illustrations and lyrical prose combine to make a soothing read-aloud.
Harold Green III states in his author’s note that this mythical story is meant to soothe a real-world problem as well as to convey the power of being cared for. Mother Africa appears in the story and marvels at the night sky, watching over the animals of the night. A jaguar perched in the tree, a bird black as night, and a horse sipping from a stream, all ready to fall fast asleep.

Well-known illustrator Karabo Poppy states that reading this story reminded her of the African fables her father told her every night before bed. This connection reminds her of the pride in being black and in growing up in Africa. Her mystical illustrations, using the colors black, orange, blue, and purple, offer a feeling of being hugged by the night.
Harold Green III is a storyteller and also uses his lyrical voice in performances of all kinds, including TEDx Talks, spoken word poetry, and other engagements. He is a proud son, brother, husband, father, teacher, coach, and mentor. He lives in Chicago with his family. Check out his website, HERE.
Karabo Poppy is an illustrator, street artist, and designer. She partners regularly with Nike and other high-profile brands. She lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she often admires the night sky.
