All summer, I’ll be sharing books for kids of all ages on topics that will interest them or offer them something new to learn about. Most of the time, these will be nonfiction books, but sometimes we can learn from fictional stories too. I believe reading over the summer is so important, and keeping kids interested in reading by finding books that are relevant and full of topics that they are interested in is very important. Kids should be reading at least 20 minutes every day, and I hope that these books offer you ideas to keep your kids reading and learning all summer.
Look for these posts every Friday. They will always have Summer Read-to-Learn in the title and the tags. There will be books from some of my favorite publishers, as well as books on all kinds of topics kids love to read and learn about. Be sure to stop by each week to see what book I’m sharing as part of my Summer Read-to-Learn series.

Non-Fiction Interactive Board Book
Seek and find all the animals in their various habitats in an oversized board book with pages that open up with a page-sized flap. In the Country, On the Ice, In the Forest, On the Farm, In the Rainforest, and In the Backyard are where kids will find all the animals. There is a brief informational paragraph about what is happening on the page, and a few things to search for. Then, in small labeled circles, there are illustrations of various items and animals to look for on the page.
On the Farm, children will see a busy day happening at the farm with a tractor, animals being fed, vegetables growing in the garden, sheep grazing in the pasture, and ducks swimming in the pond. Kids will be prompted to look for a barn swallow, a donkey, a mouse, a goose, and more.
The illustrations are accurate yet cartoonlike, making the animals easy and fun to find. Even the ants crawling across the grass are cute. My favorite is the hedgehog peeking between the grass. You’ll find common animals on the pages as well as more unique ones not seen in typical children’s books, like a weasel, a badger, and a wild boar.
This is a great book for car rides, quiet time activities, and teaching about animals and their habitats.
