Feature Friday is a new series I’ll be running on Fridays. I have so many great books to tell you about, and they are piling up in my reading room. Unfortunately, there is not enough time in my day to share them all. I’m starting a new feature on my social media channels where I’ll share a quick video review of a few books, including children’s, middle-grade, young adult, or adult fiction and nonfiction.

Clicking the photo of the books or items will take you to their Amazon listing. I may receive a small commission if you purchase through any of my links. Thanks to Random House Kids for the gifted copy.

CAITLIN CLARK: A Little Golden Book Biography

Non-Fiction/Biography

We all remember the Little Golden Books from when we were kids. They are back with a new biography series, featuring athletes, pop stars, leaders, or celebrities that kids would be interested in learning about. With the WNBA season starting up this weekend, it’s the perfect time to share the newest addition to the Little Golden Book Biography series, CAITLIN CLARK.

Caitlin Clark is a household name, but here in Iowa, we consider her our gal. Our family watched the Iowa Women’s Basketball games, cheering on Caitlin and her teammates, and now we look forward to another season of cheering her on with the Indiana Fever.

In this book, kids will learn how Caitlin became the powerhouse basketball player she is now. As a young girl, she played sports with her brothers and dreamed of being a Hawkeye. She excelled in all team sports, setting records across all Iowa high schools. Something I didn’t already know was that she also played the piano.

The book covers how she chose to focus on basketball and ultimately became an Iowa Hawkeye and then chosen in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever. The illustrations are really quite accurate and look like Caitlin. The story is thorough but short, so that even the youngest fans will enjoy reading it or having it read to them.

At just $5.57 (price subject to change), this is a book everyone can own and feel like they have a piece of Caitlin Clark’s history.

Marisa DiNovis is a children’s book editor and a lifelong women’s sports fan. She is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she studied English literature, Spanish language, and, by default, basketball. Marisa lives outside of Boston with her wife and their mini golden doodle, Maple.

Joanie Stone was born and raised in Virginia, where she still lives today with her husband and young daughter. She has a love for all things vintage, especially children’s book illustration, advertising and fashion from long ago. She hopes her images will inspire kids to pick up a pencil and create their own worlds through stories and art.
