DARK ON LIGHT

Fiction

Poetic phrases and wonderful illustrations share a story of siblings exploring at night while also looking for their dog. The adventure is more exciting because, at nighttime, their surroundings look different. The hedge that borders the lawn is dark and the stones along the garden shimmer in the light.

Three siblings get excited when an owl flies overhead but the words don’t tell you that, the illustrations do. The lyrical and rhyming text is a background to the illustrations on the page. You don’t realize a pet is lost until it is found. You don’t realize it is a bedtime story until the soothing words lull you under a blanket until you are fast asleep.

This is a different type of bedtime story but one that also highlights the beauty of the darkness outside and all that can be explored and seen if we look for it. This unexpected adventure for three siblings can be a reminder to explore the nighttime beauty in your backyard.
