If you are new to essential oils, then I highly recommend you speak to your doctor before trying anything new. It’s always a good idea to try oils on a small area before rubbing in a large spot on your body.

Boerner begins her book with essential oil basics and safety measures to take if you have never used essential oils in your home or on your body. All of the tips and recipes in this book are for use on your body or in a diffuser in your home. She goes into extensive detail about storage, mixing of oils, carrier oils to use, a dilution guide chart, and the importance of consulting your physician before ingesting any oils.

It’s important to note that while essential oils assist in weight loss, they don’t work alone. Diet and exercise are also key factors in contributing to weight loss. Boerner offers a list of questions to ask yourself regarding all the best tactics for achieving your weight loss goals related to alcohol and water consumption, sleep, sugary beverages, stress, and goal setting.

Essential oils can help boost energy, curb your appetite, alleviate stress, and help you sleep. Some of the oils mentioned and used include fennel, ginger, peppermint, lavender, and grapefruit oils. Each oil is explained with a list of their benefits, best uses, and precautions. Then Boerner goes into her recipes for various types of appetite management, energy, detoxing, and sleep.

The following is a sample diffuser recipe from the book:

SAMPLE BLEND: Stop Overeating Diffuser Blend

Makes: 10 milliliters (approximately 20 uses) / Indirect inhalation / Safe for all ages

Do you find yourself overeating at meals? Or do you find yourself eating because you are bored? This blend works best when diffused at least 10 minutes before you sit down to eat. When trying to lose weight, it is important to eat mindfully. Sit down, focus on what you are eating, think about all of the nutrients you are taking in, chew each bite at least 30 times, and eat slowly.


1. Using the plastic pipettes, add the essential oils to the 10-milliliter euro dropper bottle.

2. Reinsert the orifice reducer that came with the bottle, secure the cap, and gently swirl the bottle for about 1 minute. Label the bottle.

3. Add 8 to 12 drops to your diffuser and diffuse in 30-minute increments

4. Enjoy and eat mindfully!
