Fiction

Roxi the Rescue Dog has a habit of rescuing animals. Roxi has rescued chickens and bunnies and in this story, she rescues sad elephants. On her walk she comes across an elephant sanctuary where elephants are happy. They can splash in the pond, play in the mud, eat bananas, and have plenty of space to walk around. Roxi had so much fun with the happy elephants.

As Roxi went along she came to a place that forced elephants to be chained together, to give rides, and they weren’t treated very well. The elephants were very sad. So, Roxi gets into superhero mode and does her job to save the sad elephants.

The book encourages kids to look for ways to have compassion and respect for other animals. This book is written for the toddler-preschool age group and is a good time to start to have discussions about how we care for our earth and the living things in it. The author hopes to leave an impression on kids and hopes they will share kindness towards others, including animals. The illustrations are simple but effective. They are a mixture of colored pencils and watercolor and clearly show the emotions of the elephants and Roxi.

The end of the book introduces kids to the real Roxi, a dog rescued by the author, Carolyn Drew. The book also offers more information about elephants and their herd. You can also learn more about organizations that help animals at Roxi’s website, HERE. Proceeds from these books go to help the organizations listed on the website.
