A Child's Introduction to Cultures Around the World

Carole Roman has created a series introducing young children to cultures and people across the world. Including the book above, she has also written books about Mexico, South Korea and most recently, Norway.
The book is written in such a fun and informative way, that even the adult can learn along with the child. In France, Roman takes us to Paris and introduces us to places and people that we might see. Rather than using the words we are used to, she introduces us to a Boulangerie (boo-Lawn-jair-EE) or a bakery. By teaching us the correct French words and pronunciation we can really understand the culture. You can teach your child the word and pronounce it together....in effect learning a new language!
The illustrations in the book are vivid and fun for the child to see the places described on the pages. Much like the cover, the children and places are drawn with realistic cartoon images and everyone is wearing a big smile!
I could see these books used in our elementary school as well as those who home-school. They are short enough to hold the child's interest and encourage use of the language as well. I look forward to seeing more of Roman's series...introducing kids to places all over the world.
